Overview
The Cardo runs through today's Jewish Quarter and helps visitors visualise Jerusalem in the centuries following the New Testament.
Biblical significance
The visible Cardo largely post-dates Jesus, so its importance is historical rather than directly biblical.
Historical background
A cardo was the principal north-south street in many Roman cities. Jerusalem's monumental Cardo was developed significantly during the Roman and Byzantine periods.
What you will see
Excavated paving stones, columns, reconstructed shops and sections incorporated into the modern Jewish Quarter.
